The Iowa Department of Natural Resources announced on November 14th they will now allow hunters to use certain pistol cartridges in rifles designed for those rounds. The cartridges are permitted during the Youth, Disabled, and Shotgun seasons. Iowa DNR wants hunters who are sensitive to recoil to have this option in order to increase their hunting opportunities.
Approved cartridges must have straight-wall cases, either rimmed, or rim-less. Here’s the current list published in Iowa DNR’s deer hunting regulations.

- 10 mm Auto
- .41 Remington Magnum
