Golden Saber 185 Grain .45 ACP+P. Another .45 ACP Failure.
Don’t get us wrong, since its reorganization under Vista Outdoors (Federal, Speer, CCI, etc.), Remington has been making good ammunition. Which is why our jaws dropped when we threw their 185 grain .45 ACP+P Golden Saber against our exclusive “Frost Giant” gel test. So far this test has been a .45 ACP grave yard. Even the vaunted 230 grain “Flying Ashtray” Speer Gold Dot met its nadir in this diabolical crucible.
This has raised alarm bells at the LocaCarnivore since we carry .45 ACP from time to time, and to see such consistent dumpster fire failures has us concerned. We expected great things from this 185 grain +P Golden Saber. After all, .45 ACP (‘Murica’s caliber) driven to higher +P velocities had to triumph, right?
Wrong. The increased launch speed didn’t help. In fact, we’re sure it hurt this load’s chances when required to defeat not one package of realistic winter clothing, but three packs. Which is what you get with our “Frost Giant,” which simulates a cross-torso shot against a large-statured (really big) person wearing genuine winter clothing, not the laughable “heavy” clothing specified by the FBI in their tests.
