1791 leather “pancake” OWB holster long-term review. We field tested the 1791 leather OWB holster for three years to see if it would hold up. Given the approachable price, we had doubts it could take the pounding three hunting and hiking seasons can dish out. This particular model holster is designed for medium frame revolvers such as the K and L-frame series from Smith & Wesson, or Ruger’s GP100, for example. Shut up plastic pistol fan boys, revolvers are cool.
Large, all-steel handguns are often a pain to tote about compared to their svelte poly-framed cousins. A good holster can mean the difference between effortless carry or a visit to the chiropractor. When we spied this 1791 leather holster in a gun shop, we decided it might have what it takes. Since we didn’t have a good OWB holster for our four-inch K-Frame Smith & Wesson Model 65, we gave it a go.
Go it did. It proved robust and had the features we prefer in an OWB holster. It even put up with a sixty-yard belly crawl through rocks and grit on one tough Pronghorn hunt in Montana. We don’t want to spoil it, though. To see how this 1791 leather pancake holster stood the test, watch this great little video.
