Why you should carry a 1911.
As I write this, the Pistol, Model of 1911 is over 110 years old. Some, all right many, say this old war horse is past its prime. A venerated antique, nothing more. Its hey-day has come and gone, and the continued presence on the market evokes a punch-drunk ex-prize fighter bumming drinks in a downtown dive bar. “Let it go and move on!” They say.
Not so fast, I say. The 1911 embodies the saying, “Old age and treachery will overcome youth and enthusiasm.” This storied gun’s best days are yet ahead. It has held on for so long because it is indeed good. If it proved a liability, professionals and civilians alike would have abandoned it long ago.
Yes, the 1911 is a bit quirky when set against the polymer legions. It requires dedication both in training and maintenance beyond more modern designs. Give the 1911 what it demands, however, and it will give you a robust, accurate, and effective defense tool unlike any other.
If it’s endorsements you want, just look at how many police and military units still use the 1911. The list is extensive: USMC Special Operations, Delta Force, Navy SEALs, LAPD SWAT, FBI HRT, to name just a few. If the 1911 is obsolete, these units, who are among the best shooters in the world, haven’t heard about it. People who know their guns will, in all likelihood, depend on it as long as metallic cartridges are in use.
All right, you may say, the 1911 is still a good gun, but should you carry one everyday? Simple answer, yes, and we have many reasons for this assertion. To find out, just watch this terrific video and you’ll learn why it’s a good idea to carry a 1911.
