Is the new Sig XM7 a big mistake?
The United States Armed Forces have selected a replacement for the 60 year old M16/M4 infantry rifle platform–finally.
Designed and produced by Sig-Sauer, it fires a unique, and in many ways, revolutionary, new 6.8×51 mm cartridge. Designated XM7, the new rifle has features the old M4 could only dream about, and will sport a capable (read, “expensive”) new optical sighting system produced by Wisconsin based, Vortex Optics.
The XM7 is not without controversy, though. It weighs a ton, compared to its predecessor, for instance. Some claim it is the wrong direction.
To sort things out, we sat down with a Special Operations combat veteran to get his take on the new rifle. Get the full story in our fantastic new video.
