The U.S. Forrest Service, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and private land owners finalized a deal which preserves 640 acres between the Bob Marshal and Mission Mountains Wilderness areas for future generations to hunt. The property had been in a developer’s cross-hairs for some time, but is now under permanent protection.
The area 65 miles north from Missoula is home to elk, whitetail deer, grizzly bears, Canada lynx, and many other species.
Swan Lake District ranger, Rich Kehr said in a statement released by RMEF, ”This acquisition will
improve public land access, and help to preserve the recreation setting
and valuable wildlife habitat in the popular Holland
Lake area.”
This victory shows the key role hunters play in land and species conservation.
