Winchester has added the new XPR Hunter to their bolt-action rifle lineup. It follows the current fashion with a polymer stock, this one in Mossy Oak Break-up Country camo. Other features include Winchester’s M.O.A. trigger system, a two position, bolt locking safety with bolt release button, and an accuracy enhancing steel recoil lug embedded in the stock.
In a bold move, Winchester bucks the unfortunate cost cutting trend we see on budget priced rifles these days: short, 22 inch barrels for standard length cartridges such as .270 and .30-06. Their XPR Hunter is available with a full 24 inch barrel for all standard length chamberings, and for you long-range hunters, a 26 inch barrel for standard length magnums. However, a 22 inch barrel is the only option for short action cartridges including the short magnums. Here’s hoping they see the light on that one, too.
