Your upland hunting dog must learn the “Whoa” command. If you don’t teach them right, both you and the dog will always get frustrated when hunting birds. “Whoa” is, in essence, a refined, standing “Stay.” When given a “Whoa,” the dog must not just hold its position as with a “Stay,” it must also not make any significant movement. No looking around, shuffling feet, etc. This is vital to avoid a premature flush on the bird.
